well, i thought you were expecting me to say gainsborough or something. it's too bad to be gainsborough, though.
it's also too bad that enlarging the picture shows you THE ARTIST'S SIGNATURE IN THE BOTTOM LEFT CORNER.
and it's kinda creepy how you connect it with the tolkien thing, isn't it? was it the fuhrer's idea of rivendell, i wonder?
In other words: Was Rivendell Old Man Tolkien's idea of the fascist ideal?
Wasn't Middle-earth that sort of thing on the whole?
We're being to harsh, I fear - Tolkien's prime motive was to write the Christian epic. But I guess it all comes down to what you and I were talking about, of fascism being inherent in every kind of ideology. You know how a lot of feel-good campaigns for social causes run on the 'We all have AIDS/We were all Americans on 9/11/we are all African' lines? I think we're all fascists.
Ha. So true. (To both Middle-earth and the social causes point.)
And as for fascism being inherent in every kind of ideology, I'd say most ideologies have the capacity for being fascist. And that usually occurs when the ends justify the means. If the process does not define the outcome, what will?
If only they'd let him in that art school..
'if only' is probably the most pointless phrase in existence.
